I love this post and all you’re very good advice. You grabbed my attention right away:

“You may feel that inner tug. That truth that refuses to quiet itself.

If you’ve tried to ignore it and bury it under busyness, but the desire remains — insistent and electric – you might not just want to write your story, you may need to.

Memoir can be more than just writing, it can be a reckoning. Radical honesty disguised as narrative.”

Thank you so much, Laura.🙏🏿

I understand so well --as I'm sure you do -- the enormous fear of telling the truth, and I just hope I can help even one person move past it and experience the liberation that comes with telling a story you need to tell.

Liberation is a great word for it.

Ok. You have invited me to a place i have been longing to revisit: my memoir begun 20+ years ago and abandoned after some BAD feedback! I know the arc...I need the courage. Your wise words have restored it. Thank you.

Negative feedback can be discouraging for sure. But if you really have a fire to tell a story, constructive criticism, whether positive or negative, can actually help you grow as a writer and can guide you towards refining your manuscript.
